FAQs About the Competition

  • The time and location for Superhuman 2026 is to be determined.

  • No, Superhuman is open to all dance art forms and styles. All choreographers selected to compete will abide by the same guidelines.

  • Superhuman is Bay Area focused and will showcase the immense talent within Bay Area's thriving dance scene. It is also a choreographer competition, which differentiates itself from other competitions which often showcase team or project based collaborative sets. With Superhuman, each choreographer selected to compete will choreograph to one full song, which will allow them to showcase their ability to story tell through a full piece. 

  • After the application window closes, an anonymous panel of leaders within the Bay Area dance community will select 7 of the 10 choreographers who will be invited to compete at Superhuman. The remaining 3 spots will be decided by a public vote. After all 10 choreographers have accepted their spots, the rest of the applicants will be notified.

  • Skill level and Expertise: Demonstrates a high level of proficiency and expertise in the field of choreography. 

    Innovation, Creativity, and Potential for Impact: Brings fresh, innovative ideas, and unique approaches

    Musicality: Strong Ability to help the viewer hear the song in new ways.

    Community Involvement: Is an active part of the Bay Area dance community, through teaching, belonging in teams/projects groups, taking classes, and engaging in community events. 

    Diversity and Representation: We aim to select choreographers from diverse backgrounds and experiences to enrich the competition. 

  • Each choreographer will choreograph to one full song. The song should be between 3-5 minutes in length. If the chosen song is shorter than 3 minutes or longer than 5 minutes, the song can be edited to fit the time length requirement. 

    Each choreographer must utilize 10-20 dancers to execute their vision. For Superhuman 2.0, choreographers must dance in their set.

    No collaborations are allowed.

  • No. For 2025, dancers who have been invited to perform in a choreographer’s set is limited to perform in one competition set.

  • A panel of leaders within the Bay Area dance community will serve as judges and will select the top 3 winners. We will announce the judges at a later date. 

    The judges will select the top 3, for the following cash prizes:

    Grand Prize $2,500 | 2nd Prize $1,000 | 3rd Prize: $500

  • Superhuman aims to provide a supportive and inspiring environment for choreographers to develop their craft and gain exposure within the dance community. The event will foster connections among choreographers, dancers, and audiences, further strengthening the local dance community. Superhuman will also serve as a platform to encourage new and aspiring choreographers.
